Pahela Baishakh observed in dists

GOPALGANJ Apr 15: Pahela Baishakh the 1st day of Bengali New Year-1422 was celebrated throughout Gopalganj district in a befitting manner Tuesday.

Various programmers have been chalked out by district administration, Gopalganj pourashava, Government and Non-government organisation, educational institutions, cultural institutions, club, Shisu Academy, Shilpakala Academy and Udichi Shilpi Goshthi etc. Earlier in the morning the celebration started with songs to welcome the new year, "Esho Hey Baishahkh Esho" at the bank of the river Madhumati of Gopalganj city, organised by the district administration.

One the day traditional Bengali food was distributed at hospital, jail and the Sishu Paribar here. The businessmen in haats, bazars groceries, sale centers and important places in both rural and urban areas celebrated traditional Halkhata and distributed sweets among their customers.

Our Correspondent Ninlphamari reports: Pahela Baishakh, Bengali New Year's day observed in Nilphamari with huge enthusiasm.

The day was a national holiday, so all the government offices and educational institutions were closed. Different clubs, group of people and educational institutions chalked out different programmes to observe the day across the district. Educational institutions and clubs brought out colourful processions carrying replicas of some symbols of the country including elephant, horse, owl, bullock cart, plough and so on.

Numerous cultural functions and picnics were also arranged in the municipality. Business community of the district arranged Halkhata, the opening of new ledger book for the New Year and collected outstanding loans.
