Pakistani citizen dies at Kashimpur jail

GAZIPUR, Jan 6: A prisoner at Kashimpur central jail part 2 in Gazipur died of cardiac attack early on Saturday. He was identified as Harun, 52, son of late Abdur Rahman of Karachi in Pakistan.

He was an accused of a drug and gold smuggling case in airport police station in Dhaka.

Superintendent of Kashimpur central jail part 2 Proshanta Kumar Bonik said, Harun suffered severe chest pain on Friday midnight.

He was first sent to jail hospital and then shifted to Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, but there the duty doctor declared him dead.

Harun was arrested on March 14 in 2013 in a narcotics and gold smuggling case with the airport police station in Dhaka and sent to the Dhaka Central Jail through the court.

Later, he was transferred to Kashimpur high security jail on February 14 in 2014 and on October 03 in 2016, he was shifted to Kashimpur central jail-part 2.

Harun's body was sent to Dhaka Medical college hospital after post mortem in Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College hospital. His body will be sent to Pakistan after completed legal process.

Residential medical officer of Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College hospital Pronoy Bhushon Das said, Harun was brought to the hospital at around 2.45 am on Friday as dead.
