Parbatipur locomotive workshop overhauls burnt rail engine

NILPHAMARI, Mar 16: Parbatipur locomotive workshop of Bangladesh Railway has been able to achieve a success in a major repairing and overhauling of a burnt railway engine bearing No. 2933 of meter gauge railway track. This is the first of its kind of repairing and overhauling in the workshop.
The workshop sources said Bangladesh Railway imported 15 MI category engine from South Korea's Hundai Company with the financial support of Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), the engine was one of those.
On October 07, 2013, the engine which was carrying Inter city train Parabot, met with an accident in Mohadebpur railway station of Hobigang. As the train derailed, the fuel tank burst, caught fire in the engine and the engine was burnt severely.
The burnt engine was taken to Parbotipur locomotive workshop on May 15, 2019.
While contacted, Parbotipur locomotive workshop Manager Moyen Uddin Sarkar said repairing of burnt railway engine was a challenge for us and the workers and employees worked very hard and proved their proficiency and ability and were able to overcome the challenge. Trial- run of the repaired engine was undertaken on February 13.
Sources said repairing cost of the engine was around Tk 35 million. Sources added in case of import of such a new engine it would cost Tk 350 million or so. All the parts used in repairing of the engine were made in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Railway sources said the engine would join the Eastern Railway very soon.
Sources said if financial and other necessary support is provided the workshop would contribute substantially to the overall enhancement of Bangladesh Railway.
