NETRAKONA, Jan 28 (UNB): Heart patients in ten upazilas of Netrakona continue to suffer finding hardly any treatment in the health complexes of the upazilas for there being no cardiologist.
Apart from this, the number of heart patients is increasing alarmingly in the upazilas which include Sadar, Kendua, Madan, Barhatta, Mohonganj, Kalmakanda, Purbadhala, Durgapur, Atpara and Khaliazuri.
A survey conducted by a local NGO found that the patients-mostly illiterate males and females aged between 35 and 45 years-visit the local hospitals and different upazila health complexes for receiving treatment but have to go back disappointed as there is no heart specialist in any of the hospitals.
And same is the case with Netrakona Sadar Modernised Hospital. The doctors on duty in these health complexes having no experience on heart diseases prescribe the patients treatment, advising to take rest simply in most cases.
Some doctors working in these health complexes in most cases advise the patients either to go to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital or to Dhaka to consult some of their seniors who are mainly involved in private clinics there.
Finding no other alternative, a good number of patients are compelled to go to foreign countries like India and Singapore to take better treatment as they do not get proper treatment here.
