Poet Mir Mosharrof Hossain\\\'s 167th birth anniversary today

JHENIDAH, Nov 12: In observance of the 167th birth anniversary of poet Mir Mosharrof Hossain, a 3-day function has been organised at his birthplace at Lahinipara village home under Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia. The function will feature discussions on the poet's life and literary works, staging of plays based on his writing, presentation of songs composed by him and holding of a Grameen Fair.

On Thursday November 13, 2014 Deputy Commissioner of Kushtia Syed Belal Hossain will attend the inaugural discussion meeting as chief guest while noted writer and researcher Professor Dr. Abul Ahsan Chowdhury, Department of Bangla, Islamic University, Kushtia, will speak as the chief discussant with ADC (General) Muzibul Ferdous in the chair. The discussion meeting will follow staging of a drama based on Mir Mosharrof's novel, "Udashin Pathiker Moner Katha" by Nandon Theatre, Kushtia and presentation of songs. The poet's 92 songs have so far been found and collected till now.

On 14 November, the second day of the celebration, KM Rahatul Islam, Chief Nirbahi Officer, Zila Parishad, Kushtia will preside over the discussion meeting whereas Kushtia Zila Parishad Administrator Zahid Hossain Jafor will be present as chief guest. On this day drama Karbalar Kanna, based on the poet's Bishad Shindhu, will be played and his songs will be sung.

On the closing day of the occasion, local artistes will recite his poems and present his composed songs.

Mir Mosharrof Hossain was born on November 13, 1847 at Lahinipara village under Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia and died on December 19, 1911 at Padamdi Nababbari in Faridpur (in Rajbari district now). Mir Moyazzem Hossain and Doulatannessa were his parents.

Mosharrof Hossain was educated in Jagamohan Nandi's Pathshala, Kushtia High School, Padamdi Nabab School and Krishnanagor Collegiate School.

In professional life, the poet was an officer of Nabab Estate, Manager of Delduar Gajnabi Estate and did a job in Nabab Estate in Bogra. He established 'Mosharrof Library' in order to sell books.

He was an honorary magistrate in Kushtia, and Tangail and received recognition and honour of Bongio Shahittya Parishad.
