Police constable killed in Jessore road accident

JESSORE, Apr 6: A police constable was killed and an ASI injured in a road accident during an anti-smuggling drive at Dogachhia on Jessore-Chaugachha Road on Monday morning.
The dead is Ismail Hossain, 55, constable at Sajiali police camp under Kotwali police station in Jessore and son of Abdul Latif of Ramnagar village under Natore Sadar Upazila.
Shikder Akkas Ali, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station said that constable Ismail was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital after he was wounded critically, hit by smugglers. He died on the way to Dhaka in the morning. 'Assistant sub inspector Asad was also wounded in the incident', the OC added. The ASI was undergoing treatment at Jessore police line hospital.
The OC said that the duo was wounded as they met an accident on the road being hit by a motorbike of smugglers. The policemen were chasing the smugglers by another motorbike.
The body was taken to the village home of the deceased after post mortem examination at Jessore Medical College Hospital, the OC added. A case was lodged in this connection.
