Police nab six 'robbers' in Madaripur

MADARIPUR, Feb 27: Police have arrested six `robbers’ while preparing for a robbery at Shibchar in Madaripur. The six 'robbers' were arrested from Kathalbari area of Shibchar upazila on Friday night around 1.30 am along with weapons like Ramdaq, iron rods, knives and mobile phones.

Madaripur Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mahbub Hasan confirmed the information at a briefing at Shibchar Police Station on Saturday.

According to a press release, a team of police led by SI Surdashan Kanti of Shibchar Police Station conducted a raid on a mahogany garden at Kandi village of Jamiruddin Munsir in Kanthalbari Union of the upazila on Friday night on the basis of information.

Sensing the presence of police, the 'robbers' tried to flee. Police arrested Arif Hawlader (25), Wasim Sarkar Mohsin (34), Md. Shahin (25), Md. Selim Bepari (55), Emdadul Bepari (38) and Jalal Khake (52). At that time, the 'robbers' informed the police that a group of 5/6 people including Sardar Sobahan (35) and Sabuj Live (30) managed to escape. Police recovered five ram dao, an iron pipe, two sharp knives, a torch light, an iron hex blade, a sewing range, a screwdriver and three mobile sets from the them.
