SYLHET, Dec 20: The post work measurement on the crop protection schemes implemented by the Water Development Board (WDB) last year has been going on in Sunamganj district. It would take at least two more weeks to be completed, an official informed on Wednesday.

ACC Director from the capital Abdur Rahim, who is leading its team of officials said a private firm has been surveying the field works as we are on supervision while WDB officials are there too.

As many as 10 survey teams are on the field in five upazilas and visited the different haors and took measurement on the imcomplete works on the crop protection embankments, done by the Project Implementation Committees (PIC) of WDB last year, said Executive Engineer-division I, Sunamganj Md, Abu Baker Siddique Bhuiyan this morning. They would have to see things on about 500 km works on five upazilas- Sunamganj Sadar, Tahirpur, Dharmapasha, Biswambharpur and Jamalganj.

Twelve more teams would however, start taking measurement on the schemes in the rest 6 upazilas of the district soon, the official added, since the WDB lacks sufficient instruments and technical manpower, the measurement-taking is being done through out sourcing in line with a decision by the higher authorities.

Standing Boro paddy on more than 200,000 hectares of land were damaged by the devastating floods, caused by the excess rains and hilly onrush of waters from the upstream in the Indian states of Meghalaya last year.
