TANGAIL, Oct 18: Potato prices have almost doubled in Tangail. Few weeks ago, white potato was being sold at Tk 15 per kg and red potato at Tk 20 to Tk 25 per kg in the local market. But at present the price shot up high in the market. White big ones sold in the market at Tk 25 to Tk 30 per kg and red one at Tk 35 to Tk 40 per kg.
Potato is the main vegetable of all classes' of consumers, especially of low income people.
Due to that the low income people are worst sufferers as they solely depend on that vegetable.
When visited the local vegetable market such as Bot-tala bazar, Park bazar and Soyani bazar, the retailers and wholesalers told FE from last few weeks the potato price was increasing day after day. Karim bepari, a potato wholesaler said that due to short supply, the potato price was increasing in the market.
