BOGRA, July 14: A six kilometre stretched road from Kahaloo to Bogra Charmatha area has developed cracks and potholes in numerous places.
The most important industrial zone Shitlai of the district is threatened due to ditches developed in the road in the rainy season. Besides, cracks and potholes causing inconvenience to movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
Municipality mayor of Kahaloo Helal Uddin Kobiraj said, "This road is very important for Karatoa Fertiliser and Agro-Limited, Konok paper mill, the proposed paper mill, Kahaloo Adorsho Mahila degree collage, Azizul Haque Memorial degree collage, pilot girls school, pilot boys school, Kahaloo primary school and Terish feed mill."
"A large number of vehicles are used carrying goods to and from these companies." he added. For potholes in the road, carrying costs have become immeasurable.
After visiting some areas of the road, this correspondent found that deep potholes have been created on the roads from Shitlai to Kochore technical collage, causing immense sufferings to vehicles and pedestrians.
A truck driver Shamsul Alom said, "In many areas, potholes have turned into shallow pools due to stagnant water, creating hurdles for vehicles to cross."
A headmaster of primary school said, "Lack of repair work, absence of system to drain out the rainwater and poor maintenance by the authorities concerned are responsible for the water-logging keeping these roads in an awful condition."
