Pottery industry expanding in Naogaon

NAOGAON, Aug 08: Pottery industry is expanding in the district as a good number of families are engaged with the profession.
Sources said the demand of different pottery items of the district is increasing in Kushtia, Jhinidah, Bharamara and Darshona districts for the low price and good quality.
Some people who were engaged with other profession have shifted to pot making, sources added.
Ranigar upazila of the district is well-known for the industry.
In a recent visit to Gohelapur, Khotreshaor, Ataikula, Bhandara and Talshon villages, this correspondent found potters were preparing soil for making varieties of clay items.
Trader Ariful Islam said pottery items are in great demand in different district across the country.
Potters of the district make quality pots. They also make pots according to the shape and sizes of the buyers, daily star.
Each small pot is selling at Tk 15 to Tk 20, middle one at Tk 25 to Tk 30 and big pots at Tk 40 to Tk 50 in the retail market, while the wholesale rate is Tk 12 to Tk 15, Tk 20 to Tk 25 and Tk 35 to Tk 40 respectively.
Arjun Paul of Gohela village under Raninagar upazila said, "If the government extends its hands towards us, our forefathers profession can be save from extinction."
