Prices of essentials go up in Pabna

PABNA, June 18: Prices of essential commodities have gone up in all the markets in Pabna district at the start of the holy month of Ramadan, causing immense sufferings to the low-income people.
The price of gram, widely consumed by the fasting Muslims, has soared by Tk 25 to Tk 30 per kg. The commodity is now being sold at Tk 65 to Tk 70 per kg against the previous price of Tk 45 to Tk 50.
The price of sugar, an essential item, has gone up by Tk 5 to Tk 7 per kg. It is now being sold at Tk 45 to Tk 47 per kg against the previous price of Tk 41. Retailers blame wholesalers for the hike in price.
On the other hand, the high demand for Gur (molasses) pushed up its prices in the local markets. It is selling at Tk 70 to Tk 75 per kg against the previous price of Tk 60 to Tk 65.
Prices of onion, Khesaridal (a variety of pulse) and spices have also increased as the demand for such items go up during the month. motiarfe@gmail.com
