Prices of essentials register steep rise in districts

GOPALGANJ, Jun 28: Prices of essential commodities including rice, pulse, fish, meat, atta, vegetables, salt, oil, spices etc. have registered steep rise in the local markets at the advent of the holy Ramadan.
The low income groups of landless peasants, day labourers and rickshaw pullers are the worst sufferers of the price rise of daily essentials.
According to the markets survey on Saturday morning Hilsha fish is being sold between Tk 800 and 1,200 per kilogram (Kg.). Rui is being sold between Tk 350 and 400 per kg (medium size), koi fish is being sold between Tk 200 and 250 (medium size), scorpion fish (shing) is being sold between Tk 600 and 1200 per kg. and other fishes between Tk 250 and 350 per kg.
The price of one kilogram beef varies from Tk 270 to 275, one kg mutton varies from Tk 350 to 400 and one kg brother hen varies from Tk 150 to 160.
Our Correspondent in Magura reports: Prices of daily necessaries have registered a sharp rise in Magura before the Ramadan.
Onion is being sold in the local market at Tk 30 per kg as against Tk 24     3 weeks ago while potato is being sold at Tk 22 per kg as against Tk 14 , brinjel is being sold at Tk 40 per kg as against Tk 24 3 weeks ago .
Prices of sugar and chhola have also registered sharp rise. Chhola is being sold in the local market at Tk 55 as against Tk 45 a month ago. Sugar is being sold in at Tk 45 per kg as against Tk 42 2 weeks ago.
Muri and chickpea are being sold at higher rate compared with that 2 weeks ago. Muri is being sold in the local market 55 to 60 Tk per kg as aginst 45 to 50 Tk 2 weeks ago. Chickpea is being sold in the local market at 65 to 70 Tk per kg as against 50 to 55 Tk 2 weeks ago.   
Steep rise in the prices of essentials have caused concern among the common people of the district. They are demanding proper monitoring of market price by the authority.
