Prices of essentials shoot up in Bogra

BOGRA, July 29: Price of essential commodities like ladies finger, egg-plant, bitter-gourd, pointed-gourd, pulse, cucumber and vegetable marked rise in the local kitchen markets due to frequent heavy rainfall in Bogra district including 12 upazilas for last few days.

The local people told this correspondent that prices of fish, meat, edible oil, turmeric, mustard and spices remained at their previous high levels. Due to scarcity of essential commodities the low income groups of landless peasants, day-labourers and rickshaw pullers are the worst sufferers.

According to the survey of the markets on Wednesday, prices of all types of vegetables including fry chilly, potato, cucumber, green chilly and onion have also shot up.

A trader of Fotteali bazar Rahim Uddin said that one kilogram of egg-plant is being sold between Tk 45 to Tk 50, potato Tk 20 to Tk 25, cucumber Tk 20 to Tk 30, green chilly Tk 100 to Tk 120, onion Tk 40 to Tk 50 per kg. and ginger is being sold between Tk 150 to Tk 160.
