MANIKGANJ, Sept 10 (BSS): Prices of all kinds of fish and vegetables went up in Manikganj as the normal supply chains were disrupted by days of relentless rain and flood water.
Sources said heavy rainfall and flood water has inundated most of the vegetable fields. This has resulted in price hike of the daily essentials including vegetables and fishes.
Now, per kilogram brinjal is being sold in the markets at Tk.60-70 and one kilogram green chili is being sold at Tk.100-120, a medium size bottle gourd is being sold at Tk.60-70, per kilogram lady's finger is being sold at Tk.45- 50. Each four green banana is being sold Tk.20-25.
The prices of all kinds of fishes have also increased remarkably. All
kinds of small fishes such as Kajuli, Tangra, Balay, Kechki, Meni, Batashi and Mola are being sold at Tk. 600-700 per kilogram.
A vegetable trader at the kitchen market said the recent price hike may continue for some time as it will take one month time for the newly cultivated vegetables to arrive in the market.
Fish traders at the kitchen market said recent flood and seasonal rain has washed away most of the ponds and canals and ditches, so fish will be available when the water of the canals and ditches begin to recede.
