Pro-AL panel wins landslide victory in RUTA polls

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Mar 22: The Pro-Awami and Left leaning backed teachers yellow panel got landslide victory in the polls of the Rajshahi University Teachers' Association (RUTA), Saturday.
The election was held at the Juberee Building teachers lounge from 800am to 2.00pm Saturday.
The Yellow Panel bagged 14 out of the existing 15 seats against the BNP-Jamaat's backed White Panel.
Prof. Ananda Kumar Saha of Zoology and Prof Dr M Rezaul Karim Badal of Biochemistry and Molecular Science department were elected president and general secretary respectively of RUTA.
Dr M Rafiqul Ahsan Ranju of Physics dept was elected Vice President, Dr M Omar Faruque Sarker of Marketing dept as Treasurer and Shatil Siraj Shuvo of Mass Communication and Journalism bagged the Joint General Secretary's position.
The 9 other elected executive members from Yellow Panel are Dr Mizanur Rahman Khan of Bangla dept, Dr M Firoz Alam of Botany dept, Dr AKM Akhtar Hossain Liton of Computer Science and Engineering dept, Syeda Nusrat Jahan Shompa of Fisheries, Dr M Rezaul Karim of Linguistic dept, Sheikh Muhammad Nurullah of Management Studies, Dr M Abdul Alim of Law dept, Dr Mortuza Khaled Dipu of History and M Ansar Uddin of Political Science dept.
On the other hand, RU Music department teacher Sanjida Moeed Runa was elected general member from the White Panel in the poll.
Some 960 votes out of 1170 votes were cast in the polls.
