RAJSHAHI, Nov 01 (BSS): Promotion of skilled youth can be the best way of ensuring sustainable development in the country.
Utmost emphasis should be given on transforming them into competent human resources. All the government and non-government agencies concerned should come forward and work together to attain the cherished goal.
Government officials and other stakeholders came up with the observation while addressing a discussion in the city on Wednesday.
District Administration and Department of Youth Development (DYD) jointly organised the discussion at the office conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC), marking the National Youth Day-2023.
This year's theme of the day is 'Smart Jubo Samriddha Desh Bangabandhur Bangladesh'.
Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Dr Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir addressed
the discussion as the chief guest with DC Shamim Ahmed in the chair.
Prof Rabiul Islam at Department of Computer Science and Engineering in Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, City unit vice-president of Bangladesh Awami League Shaheen Akhter Rainy and Deputy Director of DYD ATM Golam Mahbub also spoke on the occasion.
The speakers laid emphasis on transformation of youth into worthy citizens through giving quality education alongside developing a sense of patriotism.
Commissioner Dr Humayun Kabir stressed the need for building the youths as skilled workforce through imparting them with different vocational training.
He said many youths become derailed due to lack of proper care and nursing and ultimately they became a burden to society.
The chief guest urged the youths to extend their whole-hearted cooperation to the law enforcement agencies to protect the young generation from drug abuse.
In his remarks, Prof Rabiul Islam said ensuring leadership training for students and the youths in particular has become an urgent need for transforming them into worthy citizens.
He said the role of youths as well as the students is very vital for creating massawareness together with forging a social resistance against extremism and militancy at higher educational institutions.
As a whole, the students should be groomed as social watchdog so that they can contribute to society and the nation positively.
