RAJSHAHI, Mar 13 (BSS): Speakers at a workshop here today said substantial improvement of women entrepreneurship could play a vital role in ensuring women empowerment.
They viewed that successful promotion of women entrepreneurship could be effective means of boosting their income generating activities.
Jatiya Mahila Sangstha (JMS) organized the workshop styled 'Promotion of Women Entrepreneurship for Economic Empowerment' at Rajshahi Circuit conference hall. A good number of women entrepreneurs attended the workshop.
Executive director (additional secretary) of JMS Naznin Begum and Project Director (joint secretary) Anwara Begum addressed the workshop as chief and special guests respectively with Dr ANM Bazlur Rashid, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), in the chair.
The chief guest said the present government has adopted diversified programmes for elevating living and livelihood condition of the women.
She urged the entrepreneurs to maintain standard in manufacturing and marketing of goods to exist in the competitive markets.
Empowerment of women has become an urgent need for their financial independence. So, the government had introduced a bondless loan programme for women entrepreneurs.
Naznin Begum said the women entrepreneurs should seize every opportunity through the best uses of their trade-wise associations. Professional training could help women entrepreneurs realize these opportunities.
As a whole, she said, women, especially entrepreneurs, can progress only if the authorities concerned ease the way for them in launching their start-ups.
She, however, stated that women entrepreneurs of the country were facing a number of obstacles which should be removed on an urgent basis.
One held with fake currencies
Another BSS report says: Police arrested a man with 0.15 million Indian fake notes from a passengers bus in Belpukur bypass area on Rajshahi-Dhaka highway under Puthiya Upazila of Rajshahi in the early morning today.
The arrestee has been identified as Tofazzal Hossain, 32, son of Sohrabul Hossain of Punchhoga village under Shibgonj Upazila of the district.
On a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid in the Dhaka bound bus bearing No. Dhaka Metro-BA-11-6631 around 5.30 am and arrested Tofazzal Hossain. The team seized the fake notes from his possession. However, kingpin of the circle, Shafiqul Islam, 40, son of Foyez Uddin of the same upazila, managed to escape, said Selim Badsha, Inspector (Investigation) of Puthiya Police Station.
