Pulse cultivation gains popularity in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, Feb 17 (BSS): The cultivation of different kinds of pulses including pea, lentil, maskolai, khesari and mug is gaining popularity among the farmers.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md Habibur Rahman said the target of khesari cultivation was fixed on 3,074 hectares of land in all the seven upazilas of the district with a production target of 3,702 tonnes last year. But it was cultivated on 3,702 hectares of land, exceeding its fixed target.
During the current season, 3,702 hectares of land have been brought under khesari cultivation in the district.
Apart from it, the cultivation target of mug and pea was fixed at 75 and 381 hectares of land in the district respectively, but 146 hectares and 413 hectares of land were brought under its cultivation, exceeding those targets, he said.
The vast char areas of Harirampur and Daulatpur upazila of the district were brought under maskalai cultivation, he added.
