MAGURA, Oct 18: Recent rainfall comes as a boon for the Aman farmers in Magura. About 2 weeks ago. Aman growers in the district were in anxiety over achieving production target of the crops as drought like situation was prevailing in the district. But it was raining heavily for last 6 days in the district. The rainfall has made the Aman farmers of the district optimistic of achieving a bumper production.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Magura said, a total of 42500 hectares of land was brought under Aman cultivation in the district this year with an output target of 1,18,500 metric tonnes rice. The total rainfall in the district from October 12 to 17 was 145 mm.
When contacted Baten Sheikh, a farmer of village Bashkuta under Magura Sadar Upazila said, "I have cultivated Aman paddy in 3 bighas of my land. Recent rainfall in the district has made me optimistic of getting a bumper production and I am expecting about 50 maund of paddy."
Another farmer Taleb Mian, a farmer of village Gangnalia under Magura Sadar Upazila said, "I have cultivated Aman paddy in 4 bighas of my land this year. One week ago, I was thinking to irrigate my land for the last time. But recent rainfall has relieved me of the cost of irrigation. Moreover, due to recent rainfall my paddy has taken a fresh look."
When contacted DAE, Magura deputy director Mokhlesur Rahman said, "Recent rainfall has brought smile on the faces of Magura Aman growers. We are now expecting a bumper production of Aman in the district."
