RAJSHAHI, July 16: With Eid-ul-Fitr round the corner, malls and markets of the city were abuzz with heavy customer rush on Thursday. People in huge numbers were seen buying clothes, footwear, gift items, greeting cards, shoes etc, when salesmen passed busy time dealing with customers.

"This is real shopping time," said Ibrahim Khalilullah of city's Postal Academy area carrying a bagful of dresses and shoes. "I prefer to buy things just before the festival, and here I'm enjoying my shopping."

Imparting a colourful touch to the shopping frenzy, children accompanied by their parents were seen engrossed in choosing their favourite toys, colourful dresses and footwear.

Shopkeepers were a happy lot. "We expect more shoppers to visit in last three days," said a readymade garments shop owner at RDA Market. "Eid means a good business as we receive a heavy rush of customers," he added.

"The rush is doubly more in the afternoon and it increases in the late hours. We keep our shops open till around 11:00pm and people keep pouring in till that time," said a salesman of New Market.

Meanwhile, some customers alleged the shops were charging higher prices on every product which led them to buy from makeshift shops of different footpaths.

Like in previous years, Indian and Pakistani dresses were dominating the dress market while only Silk houses preferred the traditional items.    ritushar.ru@gmail.com
