RANGPUR, Mar 04: Chilli growers in different areas in the district are delighted as they are getting good profit from the sale of their produce.
Sources said that the prospect of spicy crops is bright in different upazilas of the district including Kawnia and Gangachara.
The weather, moderate rainfall and soil of the region are also congenial to the farming of different varieties of spicy crops including chilli.
Presently, per maund (40 kg) of chilli is being sold at Tk 1,050 to Tk 1,100 in different markets, sources said.
Due to low production cost, good profit and easy farming process its cultivation is on the rise in different char areas as well.
This spicy crop is being cultivated abundantly at Char Thakurdas, Char Prannath, Char Nazirdaho, Char Pallimari, Char Chatura, Char Arajihorisswar, Char Dhusmara, Char Rajib, Char Pajorvanga, Char Gonai, Char Bishwanath in Kawnia upazila and Char Morneya and Char Mahipur in Gangachara upazila, sources further said.
Visiting some areas this FE correspondent found that the growers were passing busy time in harvesting their produce.
Rashed Mia, a cultivator of Char Morneya village under Gangachara upazila said he cultivated chilli on 25 decimals of land this season.
He has already made Tk 30,000 profit from the sale of his produce and is expecting more profit during rest of the season.
He sold per maund chilli at Tk 1500 few days ago though at present its price has come down to Tk 1,100 per maund, but still price is satisfactory, he said.
According to DAE, Rangpur official sources, cultivation of chilli is easier and less costly compared to other crops and the growers get good profit from its sale.
Owing to good profit its cultivation is on the rise across the district.
The department is providing adequate advices and assistances to the growers in order to enhance its yield, sources added.
