Rangpur, Dinajpur, Jashore road accidents kill five

A total of five people were killed in separate road accidents in Rangpur, Dinajpur and Jashore districts on Saturday and Friday night, report agencies.

In Rangpur, two passengers of a bus were killed and six others injured in a road accident at Ganjipur Bottola point on the Paglapir-Jaldhaka road in Gangachara upazila in Rangpur district on Saturday.

"The mishap occurred when the Rangpur-bound passenger bus from Jaldhaka overturned and fell down into a roadside ditch killing a man and injuring seven others there at 8:30 pm," Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Rangpur Highway Circle Zahidur Rahman Chowdhury told the news agency.

Another critically injured person succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital.

The deceased were identified as Md Jahangir Hossain, 35, of Ganjipur village in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur, and Suman Mian, 25, of Gaibandha district.

On information, the fire service and civil defense personnel and police immediately rushed to the spot, rescued the bodies and injured persons and sent them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH).

The ill-fated bus was salvaged while its driver and helper managed to flee from the scene soon after the accident.

In Dinajpur, two women were killed in separate road accidents at Chirirbandar Upazila and Nawabganj Upazila of Dinajpur district on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Mariam Begum, 50, wife of late Afal Uddin, resident of Khuniyadighi area of Chirirbandar Upazila, and Rashida Begum, 60, wife of late Shamshul Haque, resident of Daudpur area under Nawabganj Upazila.

Nur Alam Siddique, Sub-inspector of Chirirbandar Police Station, said that a motorcycle hit Mariam Begum on Friday while she was sweeping dried leaves on the road for cooking fuel at Khuniyadighi area, leaving her critically injured.

Later, locals rescued her and took her to Chirirbandar Upazila Health Complex where she succumbed to her injuries.

Bibhuti Bhushan Roy, Sub-inspector of Nawabganj Police Station, said that pedestrian Rashida Begum was going to Bhaduriya bazar on Friday noon when a picnic bus hit her, leaving her dead on the spot.

In Jashore, a motorcycle rider was killed and another injured in a road accident in front of Jashore college in Shankorpur area of Jashore district town Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Limon Hossain, 27, son of Osman Ali, resident of Muroli Moor area of the town.

The accident occurred when a speeding pickup van hit a motorcycle in front of the Jashore College around 8 pm Friday night, leaving motorcycle rider Limon died on the spot and another injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jashore Kotwali Model Thana Md. Tajul Islam said.
