Rangpur farmers making handsome profit from carrot cultivation

RANGPUR, Dec 25: Farmers in different upazilas under Rangpur district are delighted as they are making handsome profit through cultivation of carrot on their land this season.

A number of farmers in all the eight upazilas including Mithapukur, Kawnia and Gangachara are getting financially solvent by cultivating carrot in recent years. They have also witnessed significant success in growing it on their land and the cultivation of the crop has proved lucrative, sources said.

Akmal (45), a carrot grower of Boiriganj villange under Mithapukur Upazila in the district told FE he has brought one bigha of land under carrot cultivation this season and earned Tk 12,000 so far. He is also expecting more dividends during the district are becoming financially benefited by growing the crop, he added.

 Jonab Mia(55), a farmer at Khanshama village  under Kawnia upazila said, He started growing carrot on a piece of fallow land on an experimental basis two years ago and achieved expected profit which encouraged him to cultivate it on a large scale this season.  He is satisfied to get better yield, he further said.

According to DAE official sources the soil and atmosphere of many parts under the district are suitable for carrot cultivation. Carrot has been cultivated abundantly in the region during this season. Day by day its cultivation is increasing as farmers are showing more interest in its cultivation.

A good number of carrot growers told the FE that If the cultivators get interest-free loans and other agricultural inputs, they will greatly be benefited by farming it.
