Rangpur journos demand arrest of attackers on ETV newsmen

RANGPUR, Apr 22: Journalists of Rangpur working in different local and national printing and electronic media organised a human chain today (Tuesday) in front of Rangpur Press Club in the city demanding immediate arrest and punishment of the attackers who assaulted six journalist of Ekushey Television (ETV) including camera persons on Saturday when they went to Mitford Hospital to collect information and footage of various irregularities for a crime based programme titled 'Ekusher Chokh'.
In addition to journalists, educationists, business men, socio cultural activists, politicians, newspaper agents also took part in the human chain.
Later, a protest meeting was held at the same venue. The speakers of the meeting demanded exemplary punishment for the culprits. They condemned the incident and vowed to continue their duties defying all difficulties in catering news through their media without any fear. They also threatened for tougher programme, if immediate steps are not taken to arrest the director of Mitford Hospital and the accused intern doctors of the hospital.
The speakers observed that journalists are gradually becoming victims in the country by presenting news. They also urged the government to save the dedicated journalists of the country.
Among others President of Rangpur press club Fazlul Haque, Secretary Wadud Ali, Rangpur correspondent of BTV Ali Ashraf, Bangla Vision, Rangpur correspondent Joynal Abedin, Channel 24 Rangpur correspondent Jewel Ahmed, veteran politician Shahadat Hossain also addressed the protest meeting.
