Rangpur, Manikganj road accidents kill six

A total of six persons were killed in separate road accidents in Rangpur, Manikganj districts on Tuesday, reports UNB.

In Rangpur, five people were killed and two others injured when a truck rammed an auto-rickshaw on Mahiganj-Pirgachha road at Sareyartal in the city on Tuesday, said police.

The deceased were identified as driver of the auto-rickshaw Raja Miah, 50, and its passengers Foyzar Rahman, 65, Chari Paul, 45, Zannatul Mawa, 5, and a woman. Identity of the deceased woman could not be known till the filing of this report at 4:45 pm.

Four of the deceased were identified as Raza Mia, 46, driver of the auto-rickshaw, Jannat Mawa, 4, Gita Rani, 7, and Shahjahan Mia, 55, of Pirganj upazila. Identity of another deceased could not be known till the filing of this report.

The accident occurred around 1:30 pm when the truck hit the auto-rickshaw, leaving two people dead on the spot and five others injured, said Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Tazahaat Police Station.

The injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital where three of them succumbed to their injuries. Police seized the truck and arrested its driver, said the OC.

In Manikganj, a 28-year-old man was killed and 20 others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the busy Manikganj-Golra highway of Manikganj district on Tuesday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Sohag Gazi, a resident of Brakshandia village in Rajbari district. He was a passenger on the bus.

However, the identities of the injured could not be known immediately.

The accident occurred around 10.30am when the Paturiaghat-bound bus crashed into the truck coming from the opposite direction, said Mohammad Masud Khan, officer-in-charge of Manikganj Golra Highway Police Station.

"The impact of the crash was such that Gazi died on the spot. The injured are being treated at Manikganj District Hospital and Munnu General Hospital," he said, adding that the two vehicles were seized.
