Rangpur mayor orders for relief among flood victims

RANGPUR, Aug 23 (BSS): Mayor of Rangpur city and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu today directed the officials to distribute rice and pulse immediately among the flood-hit people in the city.

He passed the directive to the concerned city councillors while visiting hundreds of rain-fed flood-hit dwellers who have taken shelters at the educational institutions in different areas of the city.

He also talked to the flood-affected people sheltered at Guptapara Government Primary School (GPS), Nurpur GPS, Moslem Uddin Girls' High School, Mistripara GPS, UCEP School, Pourashava New Jummapara School, Amashu GPS and Khotkhotia area under different wards in the city.

While visiting different temporary flood-shelters, the city mayor directed the concerned city councillors for distributing five kilogram rice along with pulse among each of the marooned families in their respective wards.

Jhantu also assured the flood-affected people of providing all possible assistance from the Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) authority in mitigating their sufferings caused by the rain-fed flood and logged water in different areas of the city.

City Councilors Sekendar Ali, Hafiz Ahmed Chhuttu, Nurunnabi Fulu, Haradhan Chandra Roy, Superintending Engineer of RCC Emdad Hossain, its Executive Engineer Azam Ali, Joint Secretary of City Shop Owners' Association Moazzem Hossain Mithu, accompanied the Mayor during the visits.
