Rangpur trade fair begins

RANGPUR, May 10: A month-long 'Rangpur Industry and Trade Fair-2014' has begun at Police Lines Ground in the city on Thursday evening.
Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) is organising the fair with the aim to promote local manufactures and producers and provide a platform for companies to market their brands and present their latest products.    
State Minister for Local Govt. Rural Development and Cooperatives Moshiur Rahman Ranga, MP formally inaugurated the fair as the chief guest.
Presided over by RCCI President Mostafa Shohrab Chowdhury Titu the wife of the State Minister Rakiba Nasrin attended ceremony as special guest. A total of 100 stalls have been set up in the fair to sell and exhibit different goods. Among others Director of RCCI Ramkrishno Somani, Senior Vice-President of RCCI Moztoba Hossain Ripon also addressed the function.
Executive Committee members of RCCI and its officials, former RCCI members, businessmen, bank and insurance, official, civil society members, journalists and local elites were also present on the occasion.
Different country-made products are being displayed and sold in this fair.  Various children's rides have also been arranged in the fair.  The fair will remain open for all from 10 am to 10 pm everyday. A large number of visitors are thronging the fair everyday with much enthusiasm.
Plantation of parija seedlings begins
A BSS report from Rangpur says: The farmers have already started plantation of the off-season indigenous parija rice seedlings to complete the process by this month-end everywhere in Rangpur division.
According to official sources, RDRS Bangladesh has taken an extensive programme for cultivation of the off-season, eco-friendly, short duration and indigenous variety parija rice on 3,300 bigha lands in Rangpur division this season.
