RCC constructs brick-built houses for 109 destitute families

RAJSHAHI, Nov 01: Brick-built houses have been constructed for 109 destitutes and marginal families of the city under the initiative of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton.
These houses have been built under the House Building Loan programme of Community Housing Fund of City Corporation Community Development Committee.
Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton visited several under-construction houses of ward 18 and 29 including the house of Nahida Begum of CDC at Shantalpara of the city recently.
During his visit, Nahida Begum informed the RCC Mayor that at first, she purchased a cow and started the dairy farm. Now she owns four cows at her farm. She gets 80 litres of milk from those cows and earns a satisfactory amount of money by selling milk.
Moreover, with the financial loan from the CDC, she has built a new, concrete house with the facility of two bedrooms, kitchen, dining space and two bathrooms. She expressed her gratitude to the mayor of RCC Liton for assisting her to become self-reliant.
Another CDC member Shabana has made a two-storied building and set up a dairy farm under the financial assistance of the CDC of RCC. While talking to the journalists Shabana said like her many poor and marginal group of families have become self-reliant.
RCC sources informed under the CDC programme of RCC 109 poor, marginal families were able to construct their pucca houses from October 2018 to September-2020.
After visiting houses of ward-18, the mayor visited the CDC- financed pucca houses of the beneficiaries Sabana Begum, Madina, Mira, Rozina, Jahanara and Sheila.
The RCC mayor was accompanied by councillor Shahidul Islam, Councillor Masud Rana Shahin, Executive Engineer of RCC Nur-Islam Tushar, Chief Community Development Officer Azizur Rahman and local elite.
Among 109 houses, five CDC houses have been built in ward 17; 10 in ward-28, five in ward-22; six in ward- 6; 20 in ward 24; 16 in ward 10; three in ward-26; six in ward-30; 9 in ward-2; 7 in ward-18; six in ward-3, two in ward-21; three in ward-27, one in ward-10; nine in ward-3; 11 in ward-29 and 18 in ward-25.
Each family was allocated Tk 0.2m for building the house totalling Tk 0.21 million as the house building loan.
It is learnt, the activity of 185 CDCs is continuing in 30 wards under RCC.
