RAJSHAHI, June 25: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has set a target of administering Vitamin A+ capsules to 66,395 children across the city under the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign scheduled for June 28.
The information was disclosed at a press briefing held at the Sarit Dutta Gupta conference room of Nagar Bhaban on Thursday.
According to RCC officials, a total of 9,113 children aged between six and 11 months will receive blue Vitamin A capsules, while 57,282 children aged between 12 and 59 months will be administered red capsules.
Speaking at the briefing, RCC Administrator Md. Mahfujur Rahman Riton stressed the importance of Vitamin A in ensuring children's healthy growth and strengthening their immunity.
He said Vitamin A plays a crucial role in protecting eyesight, boosting disease resistance and reducing the risks associated with malnutrition. He urged parents and guardians to take their children aged between six and 59 months to the nearest centre to receive the capsules free of cost.
A total of 384 centres will operate in the city's 30 wards from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on the campaign day. Ward offices will also continue providing the capsules until 8:00 pm to ensure wider coverage.
To support the programme, 768 volunteers will be deployed across the centres.
The RCC administrator also sought cooperation from media professionals to make the nationwide campaign a success.
The briefing was presided over by RCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Rejaul Karim. Chief Health Officer Dr FAM Anjuman Ara Begum presented details of the campaign. Health officials of the city corporation and journalists from print and electronic media attended the event.
