Record maize output on way in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Mar 22: Harvesting of maize started in Nilphamari district and will continue for a month. The farmers are expecting a record output of the crop in the district as the climate has been favourable and the farmers are becoming adept in cultivating it.
Sources said harvesting just started in some areas where it was cultivated early in the Bengali month of Agrahayan.
One maize farmer Abdur Rahman of Chatnai Union Parishad of Dimal upazila's sandy char (Shoal) areas of the river where maize is the main cultivable crop said he has just harvested one bigha (30 decimal) of maize that produced 30 maunds of the crop.
DAE sources said this year's target of maize cultivation in the district is in 6458 hectare of land to produce 46822 metric tonnes of wheat at an average production of 07.15 metric tonnes per hectare.
