Relief goods distributed among flood victims in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Oct 22 (BSS): Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) distributed cash money and relief goods among 200 flood-affected families of different remote char villages of Kawnia and Pirgachha upazilas here in the second phase on Tuesday.

Rangpur unit of BDRCS under supervision of its National Headquarters under financial assistance of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRCS) distributed Taka 3,000 in cash and relief goods among each of the beneficiary families.

Each of the beneficiary flood-affected families also received one tarpaulin sheet, one big size Dettol soap, 550 gram washing powder, one laundry soap, 250 gram tooth powder, one tooth brush, one comb, one dozen of candle sticks, one dozen of big size match boxes, one packet of sanitary napkin, 500 gram nylon rope and a plastic bag.

Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht attended the relief goods distribution ceremony arranged at Kawnia upazila parishad premises as the chief guest with Kawnia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Motaleb Hossain in the chair.

Rangpur unit Secretary of BDRCS Shah Md Nabi Ullah Panna, Member of the Regional Disaster Response Team (RDRT) from Sri Lanka AG Nanda Gamini Nanda Kumara, Kawnia upazila Vice-chairman Abdur Razzaque and female Vice-chairman Shefali Khatun, Member of the National Disaster Response Team (NDRT) from Dhaka Tazul Islam and its Corporate Officer Fardiul Islam and life term member of BDRCS Ariful Kabir Batul attended as the special guests.

Rangpur Unit Level Officer of BDRCS Mostafa Kamal, its Wash Project Officer of its Community Development Initiative Tanvir Anjum Rahman and Organiser of Tsunami Relief Fund (TRF) Project Rezwanul Karim also attended.

Members of the Disaster Response Team of Rangpur unit of BDRCS conducted their responsibility as volunteers in arranging the relief distribution ceremony moderated by its Youth Unit Chief Hasnayen Ahmmed Nayan.

The chief guest and other invited guests distributed the cash money and relief goods among 135 flood-hit families of char villages under Kawnia upazila and 65 flood-affected families of Pirgachha upazila in the ceremony.

Earlier in the first phase, BDRCS distributed Taka 3,000 cash money and similar relief goods among 200 flood-affected families of different remote char villages of Gangachara and Kawnia upazilas here on September 18 last.
