MYMENSINGH, July 9 (BSS): About 20 villages under Mymensingh Sadar and Gouripur upazilas of the district were seriously affected by the erosion of the river old Brahmaputra this year.
The most affected villages are Char Nilaxia and Char Bhabakhali in Mymensingh Sadar upazila and Bhatipara, Bhangnamari, Gazariapara, Kashiar Char, Morichar Char, Namapara, Taanpara and Bottola Bazar in Gouripur upazila, sources said.
Sources said a vast tract of crop land and hundreds of homesteads have already been devoured by the river Brahmaputra.
Affected villagers urged the concerned authorities to protect them from erosion immediately by constructing dam alongside the river.
