RMP, rover scouts working for road safety

RAJSHAHI, Sept 05: To bring discipline on road, The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) in co-operation with rover scout students started checking of vehicles on road from Tuesday.

The rover scout students have seen to checking licences of the drivers and papers of the vehicles that were plying in different streets of the city and also in the district.

They were, however, checking the registration papers and driving licenses of drivers for cars, microbus, motor bikes and heavy vehicles. They were educating riders on helmet safety and safe driving.

They have detected, people belonged to various class and professions and even common people were plying vehicles without the possession of valid driving licences or registration certificate of vehicles.

The rover scout students, however, took to the streets at Rail Gate intersection and Kasiadanga crossing of the city since 10am for the checking, braving the wet weather of heavy rains.

It is learnt, after hearing the news of the checking of documents of public transports, the plying of buses, CNG rickshaw, CNG run Leguna, Mahendra and three wheelers remained suspended and only a few who have valid documents were seen to move on roads, presumably fearing to face cases and fine.

A mobile court to check vehicles documents formed by Rajshahi District Administration was also been placed at Aam Chhatar intersection on the Rajshahi-Noagoan Highway.

Executive Magistrate of the mobile court Rahima Sultana Bushra informed that as a part of awareness programme as well as to prevent the incidents of road accident the mobile court was in operation by the order of Deputy Commissioner, Rajshahi .

'In collaboration with police and rover scout students, we are checking the registration papers and driving licenses of drivers. Who do not have legal papers and licenses, cases are being filed against them', Bushra said.

Ifte Khayer Alam, Senior Assistant Commissioner (Traffic) and Spokesman of RMP, informed several cases have been filed and a number of unfit, illegal vehicles have been seized on Tuesday in Rajshahi city. However, he could not reveal the exact number of seized vehicles immediately.
