Road accidents kill eight in four districts

A total of six people killed in separate road accidents in Dinajpur, Magura, Habiganj and Gopalganj on Sunday and Monday, report agencies.

In Dinajpur, three people were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Manik 35, the microbus driver from Hariharpur in Dinajpur Sadar and son of late Abul, Delwar Hossain 45, a treasury official from Hajipara in Thakurgaon town and son of late Hafizur Rahman. The identity of another deceased could not be confirmed immediately.

The accident occurred around 6am amid light rain on the Dinajpur-Thakurgaon highway in the Chabbish Mile area, said Md Raihan, sub-inspector of Birganj police station.

The Thakurgaon-bound cement-laden truck collided head-on with the microbus coming from Thakurgaon, leaving two people, including the microbus driver, dead on the spot, he said.

Another person died on the way to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.

The injured were admitted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.

In Magura, two people were killed and two others injured in two separate road accidents in Sadar upazila here on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Maria, 7, a first-grade student of Kechuadubi Government Primary School under the upazila and the identity of another deceased could not be known immediately.

In Ichakhada Dargah Gate area, an accident occurred around 8 am when a CNG- run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a pickup, leaving CNG passenger and pickup van driver injured, police said.

Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared the passenger dead.

Meanwhile, schoolgirl Maria was killed and another schoolgirl Habiba, 8, injured when a bus of Golden Line Paribahan hit them in the Kechuadubi area on the Jashore-Magura highway around 11.30 am as the duo was returning home from their school.

Wounded Habiba was taken to Magura Sadar Hospital.

Highway Police Station Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter.

In Habiganj, two people were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses in Bahubal upazila of the district on Monday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The accident took place in Chargaon area around 2.30 pm when

two buses collided head-on, leaving two persons dead on the spot and injuring 10 others, said ATM Mahmudul Haque, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shayestaganj Highway Police Station.

In Gopalganj, a college student was killed and another injured as a truck hit their motorbike in Konagram area of Majhigati union in Sadar upazila on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Shakib Sardar, 25, son of Hannan Sardar,

a resident of Khanarpar village of the upazila.

The accident occurred on the Gopalganj-Kotalipara road when a truck hit a motorcycle from opposite direction, leaving

bike rider Shakib dead on the spot and its pillion injured, said Mir Mohammad Sajedur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station.
