Road accidents kill four in three dists -

A total of four persons were killed in separate road accidents in Netrakona, Faridpur and Madaripur districts on Monday, report agencies.

UNB reports from Netrakona, two people were killed and 25 others injured in a collision between a bus and a truck on Mymensingh regional road in Netrakona district early Monday, said police.

The deceased were identified as bus driver Sobuj Mia and supervisor Suhel Mia.

The accident occurred when a Chattogram-bound bus collided head-on with a paddy-laden truck in the Challisha area around 5am, leaving the bus driver dead on the spot, said Zahurul Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Netrakona Model police station.

The bus supervisor succumbed to his injuries on the way to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH).

The injured are undergoing treatment at Netrakona Adhunik Sadar Hospital and MMCH, said Mamun Mia, deputy assistant director of Netrakona Fire Service.

The bodies were sent to Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue, said SI Zahurul.

Traffic on Netrakona-Mymensingh road remained suspended for two hours after the accident, he added.

In Faridpur, a 36-year-old Air Force member was killed as an unidentified vehicle hit a covered van carrying him in the Shibrampur area of Faridpur Sadar upazila in the early hours of Monday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Abul Bashar, hailing from Kakra village of Asashuni upazila of Satkhira district. He worked as a sergeant of the Air Force.

The accident occurred on Dhaka-Khulna highway around 4am as the covered van collided with an unidentified vehicle, leaving sergeant Bashar dead on the spot, said Kankon Kumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of Karimpur Highway Police Station.

Family sources said Bashar was bringing household goods from Dhaka in the covered van.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The covered van was seized.

BSS from Madaripur says, a pedestrian was killed in a road accident in the Eaterpool area in the district town on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Sultan, 35, a resident of Khetlam area of Joypurhat district.

The accident occurred when a pickup carrying litchi from Rajshahi to Shariatpur crushed him while he was crossing the road in the Eaterpool area in the morning. As a result, he was injured seriously, Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station officer-in-charge(Investigation) AHM Salauddin said.

He was taken to the Zila Sadar Hospital in a critical condition, where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
