Road accidents leave four dead in three districts

HABIGANJ, June 19 (UNB): Two motorcyclists were killed as their motorbike plunged into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at Rokanpur in Nabiganj upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Nurul Islam, 26, son of Ahsan Ullah and Sabuj Ahmed, 20, son of Abdur Rahim of Jaintapurupazila.

Nirmal Chandra Bhoumik, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Highway Police, said the accident took place around 6.00 am.

The motorbike fell into the roadside ditch.

The riders dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to local hospital morgue.

In Natore, a motorcyclist was killed in a road mishap at Ponditgram area of Sadar upazila on Tuesday noon.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Razzak, 27, son of Abul Hossain of Balubhanga village of Naldanga upazila.

Police said his motorbike hit a rickshaw and then he fell down receiving serious injury.

As the locals rushed him to Natore Sadar Hospital the duty doctor declared him dead, said police.

The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.

BSS adds: In Madaripur, a bus driver was killed and 15 others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Barishal Highway in Bhangabridge area under Kalkini upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased was identified as the driver of Eagle Paribahan bus Rabiul Islam.

Driver of the Barishal bound bus of Eagle Paribahan lost control over the steering, hit a tree and turned turtle on the highway in the area around 5.00am.

The driver dead on the spot.

The injured were taken to the Madaripur Sadar Hospital.

Vehicle movement on the highway stopped for a while after the accident.

It resumed after four hours, police added.
