Five people were killed in separate road accidents in Sherpur, Khagrachhari and Dinajpur districts on Tuesday, reports UNB.
In Sherpur, a man and his 11-year-old son riding a bicycle died after being hit by a speeding truck in Nakla upazila of Sherpur on Tuesday morning.
The dead are Hanif Mia (42), a farmer and his son Piyash, a student of Class V. Both are residents of Kalapara village in the upazila.
The accident occurred around 7.30am as Hanif was taking Piyash to school on his bicycle, police said.
"The Sherpur-bound speeding truck hit the bicycle from behind near Rais Uddin Academy," said Md Mushfiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nakla thana.
In Khagrachhari, at least two people were killed and three others injured when a log-laden truck overturned on the busy Mahalchhari-Jaliyapara road in Guimara upazila of Khagrachhari in the early hours of Tuesday.
The dead is Md Raju (35) and Md Ilias (36), two workers from Gacchabil village in Manikchhari upazila.
The accident occurred around 7:00 am when the truck driver lost control of the overloaded vehicle, police said.
"The truck overturned near the Toikarma area, leaving the two workers travelling in the vehicle dead on the spot," said Md Rashid, officer-in-charge of Guimara thana.
In Dinajpur, a cop taking a stroll near a police patrol van parked along the busy Gobindaganj regional highway in Dinajpur was fatally knocked down by a speeding truck early on Tuesday.
The dead is Omar Faruk, a constable posted at Ghoraghat thana as a driver. He was originally from Phulbaria union in Gaibandha.
The accident occurred at Nitai Saha point on the Gobindaganj regional highway.
