RU facing acute budget deficit

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Feb 18: The budget deficit of Rajshahi University (RU) is increasing day by day which now stands at about Tk 590 million over last 13 years.

Additional recruitment of teachers, officers and employees of different departments, institute and administrative section over advertised posts is the main reason behind the acute budget deficit of the university, sources alleged.

As a result, different funds of the varsity have been absorbed. Even, recently the authorities have increased fees on students and introduced night courses for additional money to bear extra salary for the teachers-officials.

The reasons for budget deficit and fund crisis are multifarious. Mismanagement, misappropriation, corruption and anomalies in different sectors by the high ups are allegedly responsible for the budget deficit and fund crisis.

Prof. Nazrul Islam, a syndicate member told this correspondent that obviously the university authorities violated the Act by appointing teachers and officers in spite of injunction of UGC and even the note of dissent from syndicate members.
