RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, July 09: The Harijan communities, under Rajshahi University (RU) who do clear reject including cleaning latrines to keep the campus healthy, sound, neat and clean, wants various facilities alike others employees of the varsity including regular up gradation, scheduled vacation, healthy staff quarter and their social appreciation as human being.
This Harijan community people want a better life for their children in a deprivation-free society with ensured human rights like the other mainstream community people.
Several Harijan expressed that their only dream for making their children higher educated from the university level and worthy citizens when the present government is committed to ensuring welfare and human rights of all. They demanded to preserve quotas for the Harijan children to admissions at the campus like others employees and officials of the university.
On information about fifty Harijans, families are engaged in cleaning purposes at different academic building, dormitories and quarters of the university whom broadly known as "Methors" are completely deprived of their most human rights when the major communities in the society full enjoy these.
Some 360 members of above families of these community backward peoples including men, women, adolescents and children have been living at "Harijan Pally" east side of the university campus only twenty-one houses within an unhealthy and polluted area since thirty years. Some families of there are living outside of the campus for the shortage of accommodation.
"Our communities clear all sorts of dirt to keep the civilized society healthy and clean though the society does not recognize us as human beings. Even we have already lived our meaningless lives under only deprivations and without basic human rights", said by Manik Lal and Mithun Harijan.
Gones Harijan, community leader narrated with uncontrolled emotions and tears in their eyes as for how they barely survive as wretches of the earth due to the inhuman attitude by the boss of the different office of the university.
