RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, June 06: Students of Rajshahi University (RU) held a rally on the campus on Thursday protesting against the reinstatement of the 30 per cent quota for freedom fighters' (FFs) children in the class one and two government jobs.
During the rally held in front of the RU central library, the students chanted slogans such as "Let the quota discrimination be eliminated, meritorious students get freedom", and "We want bureaucrats with merit rather than quota".
In the rally, Sanjida, a master's student of the Law Department, said, "I'm a woman, and despite my 1st class quota, I strongly protest this. Because I believe if I have talent and skills, I will get a first-class job."
"According to the judgment of the High Court, the total quota is 56 per cent, compared to only 44 percent for meritorious students. It is discrimination against the talented," he added.
Al Amin, a student of the Islamic History and Culture Department, said, "Despite my physical limitations, I got a chance because of my talent."
