Sales in Rajshahi markets up ahead of Durga Puja

RAJSHAHI, Sept 29: With only a few days left for the celebration of the Durga Puja, sales in the markets of Rajshahi is on the increase.
People belonging to Hindu faith are seen to throng in the markets of the city with their family members. A huge turnout of crowds is being noticed at Shaheb Bazaar, RDA market, New Market, BSCIC Silk Factory and at the Cloth Patti of the city.
City shop owners informed, sales in the markets, specially at cloth and grocers' shops have increased. They said, the sales pressure is likely to increase during the coming days when the fish and chicken markets are likely to experience more customers,
The sale of children's and women's garment items has increased. But, he said, the sales of garments in local markets is are not yet geared up like that of Puja markets of previous year.
During the Puja, elderly people used to purchase their garments a bit later, after purchasing of garments for the children and aged people. However, he said, due to incessant rainfall for last three days, the sales at the market has not yet been geared up but today with a clear sky, shop owners were expecting a bumper sale of their products because people from rural areas, including from various upazilas, are likely to visit city markets for purchasing their Puja items now.
