Sangku\\\'s martyrdom for country\\\'s independence recalled

RANGPUR, Mar 4 (BSS): Speakers at a memorial meeting here last evening said the martyrdom of Shaheed Sangku Samajhder on March 3 in 1971 in Rangpur city triggered the thirst for independence and War of Liberation of the heroic Bengali nation.
They were addressing the meeting organised by Bangladesh Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi at Shilpako
Shilpaala Academy auditorium here in observance of the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Sangku, a student of class six who laid down his life as the country's first martyr for independence on March 3, 1971.
With Vice-president of Rangpur district Sangshad of Bangladesh Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi Professor Maloy Kishore Bhattacharya in the chair, Sangku's mother attended and addressed the memorial discussion as the chief guest.
Earlier, floral wreaths were placed at the portrait of Shaheed Sangku by Dipali Samajhder and Maloy Kishore Bhattacharya at the beginning of the discussion meeting.
Vice-president of the district Sangshad of Bangladesh Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi Professor Dr Swasswato Bhattacharya delivered the welcome speech narrating importance of embracing martyrdom by Shaheed Sangku as the country's first martyr on March 3 in 1971.
Organising Secretary of the district Sangshad of Bangladesh Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi Sadhon Kumar Sarker rendered a song paying rich tribute to Shaheed Sangku, martyrdom of whom instantly ignited the War of Liberation on Marh 3 in 1971 in the whole Rangpur region.
President of district unit of the Communist Party of Bangladesh and valiant freedom fighter Comrade Shahadat Hossain, former student leader Kazi Muhammad Esha, President of district unit of Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu, District Coordinator of Bangladesher Samjatantrik Dal (BSD) Comrade Abdul Kuddus, addressed among others.
General Secretary of Rangpur district unit of of Bangladesh Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi Kafi Sarker moderated the memorial meeting participated by artistes and activists of the organisation, freedom fighters, political leaders, civil society members, students, teachers, youths and elite of the city.
Paying rich tributes to Shaheed Sangku Samajhder, the speakers said that Sangku sacrificed his life on March 3, 1971 while taking part in the non-cooperation movement rally in Rangpur breaking the curfew imposed by the Pakistani junta.
