JHENIDAH, Mar 17: Operational activities in Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Industries Service Centre (ISC), Binerpota, Satkhira, is being severely hampered due to decrepit infrastructures including entrances, internal roads, drains and culverts here.
The infrastructures constructed during the establishment of the service centre at Binerpota in 1998, have utterly turned unfit for movements for lack of periodical maintenance.
Alongside two devastating floods rendered the roads, culverts and drains flowing through the industrial service centre utterly unfit for movements.
When drawn attention of the Head Office to the condition, a committee was formed that made a report in view of rehabilitation of the centre.
According to the report, when a request for formulating a DP with an estimate of Tk. 50 million was made to the Head Office, formulating the DP, a proposal was sent to the Planning Ministry.  In order to execute the DP, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Satkhira sent a DO letter to the Secretary of Ministry of Industry on August 11, 2013.
In fiscal year 2012-13 Tk. 1.51 million was sanctioned for repair and maintenance work involving Tk 0.3 million for building repair, Tk0.76 million for 300-foot drain construction and Tk. 0.45 million for pump machine repair.
Despite decrepit condition, no allotment was made in repairing sector for the centre in the current fiscal year.
With the advent of the rainy season two entrances of the centre remain submerged under one to two feet water for three to four months  every year.
If the roads are not made fit for movements on an urgent basis, the owners of the estate will suffer various obstacles.
In order to make the two entrances and roads of the centre fit for movement, approximately Tk. 1.5 million might be needed.
There are 23 industries in the centre out of which 14 are in operation and the rest will soon go into production, said Md. Abdul Wadud, Deputy Manager, BSCIC,  ISC, Satkhira
Md. Nazmul Ahsan, Deputy Comissioner, Satkhira, told The Financial Express, " I visited the site a week back. We hope that we will receive some allocation for repairing and maintenance of the battered infrastructures by June. After getting the money, we can begin to work."
Additional Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikdar, Chairman, BSCIC, while contacted, said, " Satkhira DC talked to me regarding it", and added, "I can give the ISC allocation in the next financial year.''
