SCC to start Tk 1550m development projects under WB

SYLHET, July 4: World Bank has sanctioned Tk 1550 million for development projects under its Municipal Governance Support Project (MGSP) in Sylhet City Corporation (SCC).

The 5-year programme starts in the new fiscal 2015-2016, officials said at a programme Thursday afternoon at a hotel in the city.

Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) professor Dr. Jahir Bin Alam, SCC officials, Ward councilors and others joined it.

In his address, the Chief executive officer of the SCC Enamul Habib said the World Bank team had expressed their satisfaction over the development activities done by the SCC.

He also said e-tendering will be ensured in the bidding process of different works in the city under the said programme.

Initially, development projects like road development and reconstruction, drain construction etc worth Tk 280 million would be implemented in the current fiscal (2015-2016), said the SCC chief Engineer Nur Azizur Rahman.

The less developed areas in the different wards in the city would be covered under the programme, he added.

Project's Task Team Leader Christopher Pablo said the WB has been providing assistance for development projects in 26 city corporation and municipality areas.

World Bank official Ishita Alam Aboni presented the project paper while the councilors and others took part on discussion. Deputy Project Manager Md. Mujibur Rahman and others also addressed.
