Science-minded youths can lead country to progress: Speakers

RAJSHAHI, Mar 4 (BSS): Speakers at a discussion here Wednesday underscored the need for boosting the number of science-minded students for flourishing the information and communication technology sector.

They viewed that promotion of the science and technology sector can take forward the nation successfully.

They were addressing the inaugural session of a three-day Rajshahi Science Fair- 2015 in the city.

Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner's Office and Science and Technology Development Trust are jointly hosting the fair at Rajshahi College Auditorium.

Some 19 institutions from different areas of the district are taking part in the fair displaying their scientific and ICT innovations.

Main thrust of the fair is to encourage the young scientists alongside flourishing their innovative talents and building a science- minded nation.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed addressed the session as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury in the chair. Dean of Electrical and Computer Technology Faculty of Rajshahi University Prof Dr Shahiduzzaman and Principal of Rajshahi College Prof Habibuur Rahman spoke as the special guests.

The discussants referred to various aspects of expanding science education towards doorsteps of both rural and urban students and said there is no alternative to acquiring scientific knowledge to devise ways and means how to make the nation technologically advanced.

They called for making the students and others science -minded for building a technology and knowledge-based nation. The educational institutions should take the responsibility of enriching the students with scientific knowledge.

"To build science-minded atmosphere: Technology is only the way of progress" should be our main slogan, they added.

Everyday, the fair will remain open from 10 am to 7 pm for all.
