RAJSHAHI, Feb 9: A day-long seminar on 'Role of Biodiversity in Adapting Changing Environment', organised by Social Science and Environmental Laboratory of Rajshahi Collegiate School, was held at the school premises Saturday.
Presided over by Dr. Nur Jahan Begum, Headmaster of the School, the seminar was attended, among others, by Mollah Rezaul Karim, Divisional Forest Officer, Wildlife Management and Nature Preservation department of Rajshahi as the Chief guest,Rashedul Islam, Chief Engineer of Rajshahi University of Science and Technology attended as special guest, Environment Activists Abdur Razzak Nasim, Monsur Sarker, Mostaque Ahmed, Abdur Razzak,Khadza Begum and Fahima Faruque while renowned environment activist and Assistant Teacher of the school Jahangir Alam Shah delivered the welcome speech.
A total of 60 students of various classes attended the seminar.
Speakers at the seminar discussed about the role of biodiversity in retaining environment in the changing climatic condition. They mentioned, already many animals of our country have become extinct and at least wildlife of 27 species in the country are on the verge of extinction. They also said, for the sake of survival of human beings, the wild life must be preserved and only a concerted effort by all in creating mass awareness could save those endangered species as well as our nature. Posters and leaflets of wild life were also distributed among the students of the school.
1,22,990 students appear in SSC exams
A BSS report says : A total of 1,22,990 students, including 59,180 female students, will take part in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations this year under the Rajshahi Education Board that begins today.
The students will take part in the examinations from around 2,574 schools in eight districts through 196 centres, chairman of the board Prof Abdur Rouf Mian told the news agency today.
The board authorities, he said, have taken necessary measures to ensure a peaceful environment in and around the centers. "We have taken necessary measures to hold the examination in a peaceful manner," said Prof Abdur Rouf.
