Service centres in 139 agri-blocks open

JESSORE, May 28: Vowing to take agri based facilities to the doorsteps of the farmers, extended agricultural service centres were kicked off at a total of 139 agricultural blocks Thursday.
Prodip Kumar Mondol, additional director, agricultural extension department inaugurated the service at a programme held at a community centre at Patibila under Chaugachha upazila in the morning.
Chaired by Dr. M. Ehsanur Rahman, executive director of Dhaka Ahsania Mission, the programme was also attended among others by Nittya Ranjan Biswas, deputy director, DAE, Jessore, Dr. Anil Kumar Das, deputy director, ICT Management, DAE, Khamarbari, Dhaka and K. M. Shahabuddin Ahmed, upazila agriculture officer, Chaugachha, Jessore. Representatives from the agricultural extension project including the chief of party, Daniel Owen Coster, deputy chief of party (operations), Shoeb Uddin Ahmed and regional manager, Jessore, Mohammad Shawkat Ali at the launching ceremony.
The USAID Agricultural Extension Support Activity, implemented by Dhaka Ahsania Mission with technical partners CARE Bangladesh and mPower, wants to strengthen the existing capacity of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) to deliver effective, innovative and value chain-based extension services, and to provide enhanced support to smallholder farmers - both men and women.
