Seven workers burnt in Gazipur factory fire

GAZIPUR, Apr 27: Seven workers were burnt in a fire incident that broke out in a compressor room of an under construction factory at Palli Biddyut area under Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur on Monday morning.
They were identified as Rehana Begum, 30, Fazlur Rahman, 23, Abdul Malek, 30, Dulal Hossain, 26, Zahidul Islam, 34, Mohammed Yasin, 45 and Abu Hossain, 50.
Sub inspector of Kaliakoir police station Azim Hossain said, a leaked gas pipe caught fire when a maid was cooking food for the workers at Agami Washing Limited around 6:15am on Monday.
The fire soon engulfed the whole room that gave burn injuries to maid and six workers who were sleeping in the room.
Locals rescued them and sent to Dhaka medical college hospital.
Senior Station Officer of Kaliakoir Fire Station Apurba Bol said, on information, two fire fighting units went to the spot and doused the blaze after an hour of frantic efforts.
