A BSS report says: Mayor of Rangpur City Sarfuddin Ahmmed Jhantu today said Shaheed Waleedad Muhammad, who embraced martyrdom here in the anti-British "Sipahi Biplob" in 1857, remains as a great hero in the sub-continent.
"The supreme sacrifice of Shaheed Waleedad, along with many heroic sons and daughters during the "Sipahi Biplob" to liberate the sub-continent from the British Colonial Rule, still ignites heroism in minds of the people of this great land," he said.
Jhantu, a valiant freedom fighter, said this while shifting grave of Shaheed Waleedad Muhammad from Salek Pump area and re-burial of his remains at the specially preserved place for the freedom fighters at Munshipara Central Graveyard in the city. Rangpur Anti-corruption Movement with assistance of Rangpur City Corporation took necessary steps for shifting the grave and re-burial of the remains of Shaheed Waleedad with full honour and dignity at the Munshipara Central Graveyard.
